Rotary youth launch ‘ get vaccinated against covid-19’
View(s):The Rotary youth consisting of 13,000 Interactors and Rotaractors launched a new Campaign Under the theme ‘ Get vaccinated against Covid-19’ under the cutting edge Stop the Spread campaign which has so far reached around 1.5 million households namely in the school going and university segments across Sri Lanka said the Chairman of Rotary Youth Dr Rohantha Athukorala.
The launch took place in the presence of District Governor Rotary – Sri Lanka & Maldives Ajith Weerasinghe, Rotary International Foundation Chairman K.R Ravindran, Rotary District Rotaract Representative- Sri Lanka & Maldives Kasun Segera, Rotary District Interact President Rahul Fernandez and Interact Project Director Haani Raheem.
Sri Lanka is challenged in the year 2021 with over 73,000 been infected with the Covid virus and over 380 fatalities. Given the mortality rate being 0.48% in Sri Lanka means that within the next month we will have almost one hundred mortalities which we must be conscious about said Governor Weerasinghe hyping the cautious that we must ensure given that Sri Lanka was on top of the management of the virus.
The 2nd wave was not only a blow to humanity but it also affected the business and economy. Given that the boarders are open to tourism and we see that there are almost six people being confirmed positive I guess we must be discipline and practice the new normal behavior voiced the Governor Weerasinghe.
The Rotary Foundation Chair who was instrumental in driving the Rotary partnership for the Polio Eradication Programme in Sri Lanka partnering the Government, said ‘ Rotary has expertise on the logistical and storage of vaccines and can raise funding to support the government on the diffusion of the vaccine in Sri Lanka. We must begin the discussion now said K.R Ravindran who is the only Sri Lankan to have made it in the global stage to be the Rotary International President based out of Chicago, United States.
The Director Stop the Spread for Interact Haani Raheem said that the top 270 athletes across various disciplines are our Ambassordors of the campaign and we launch the ‘ Get vaccinated against Covid-19 ’ with the Sri Lanka Cricket Legend Aravinda De Silva.We must do everything that we can to flatten the curve so that we can get the schools to function said the Interact leader enthusiastically.
Stop the spread is the only structured campaign to drive ‘ new normal behavior’ that has been in operation fsince April, 2020.
The National project has been able to bring the 15,000 linked minded power individuals from Rotary, Rotaract and Interact that contributed to ‘ social advocacy and implementing project on the ground’ that has secured a strong share of voice in the media due to the fact that the best athletes of Sri Lanka volunteering to be opinion leaders for the project.
The value of the campaign exceeds 2 billion rupees in commercial value given the Certification process that also comes to play with the mandate of Sri Lanka Standards Institute( SLSI) said Youth Chairman for Rotary Dr Athukorala.
