Japura Voice ,  the Official Broadcasting Unit of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura marked a milestone in state university history by taking the initiative to conduct a state level E-sports  championship. As the fastest growing sport in the world, E-sports capture the attention of a significant percent of the world population. Still in Sri Lanka, E-sports weren’t recognized in this magnitude until last week, where the University of Sri Jayewardenepura decided to change history.

Japura Voice hosted the ‘Virtual League E-sports Championship’ on 24th of January together with Malshani Constructions, Wurth and Daily Mirror. This championship was open for participants from all state and private universities of Sri Lanka. Contestants played the popular mobile game PUBG in groups of four under a set of common rules nad regulations. The team ‘USJP Fighters’ from the University of Sri Jayawardenepure were crowned as the champions in the finals.

Virtual League E-sports championship was a result of several hard workers in the broadcasting unit who were determined to make a different yet worthwhile attempt at entertainment amidst a pandemic. It is a  proud moment for both the University and the Japura Voice to be able to complete such a challenging task so successfully.  Japura Voice has always been a platform where novel ideas are born and raised for youngsters to evolve and explore their capabilities.
