Debarawewa SC, Hambantota CC advance to final
Debarawewa SC and Hambantota CC advanced to the final of the Independence Trophy Twenty20 cricket tournament by recording comfortable wins over Lunugamwehera Ruhunu Marians and Baragama SC in the semi-final encounters played at the Sooriyawewa Stadium yesterday.
In the first encounter played in the morning which was a low-scoring affair. Lunugamwehera Ruhunu Marians, taking first lease of the wicket, were restricted to a score of 93 runs. Debarawewa SC, guided by an unbeaten knock of 45 by Dulash Miniran, who put on 51 for the third wicket with Sulekshana Wijewardena, raced to the target in the 15th over.
A match-winning stand of 66 runs for the second wicket between Inshaf Haroon, who smashed 63 in 55 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes, and Mohamed Afnaz enabled Hambantota CC to record an easy five-wicket win over Baragama SC in the second semi-final in the evening session.
Baragama SC, batting first, made 145 for 8 and Hambantota CC in their turn reached the target in the 18th over.
