Eliyakanda Hill Climb to flag off on February 27 and 28
The Eliyakanda Hill Climb is back this year despite the global health crisis as all arrangements have been finalised to conduct the two-day national championship on February 27 and 28. This annual event is taking place for the 25th year.
Organised by the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC) and sponsored by SLT-Mobitel, top drivers and riders are expected to compete. The motorcycles will comprise of 16 events on February 27, followed by the motor car events slotted to be held on February 28.
The SLT-Mobitel Eliyakanda Hill Climb is a national championship recognised by the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS), the governing body of motor sports in Sri Lanka and the cream of Sri Lanka’s riders and drivers are expected to be in the fray where an exciting two days of racing could be witnessed.
Chief Executive Officer of SLT-Mobitel Prabath Dahanayake, briefing the media at the press conference held at the Telecom Headquarters auditorium said they are delighted to be involved with this prestigious motor sports event as it is in line with the high speed broadband services it provides to the people of Sri Lanka.
Dr. Sanjaya Senarath, the President of SMSC said the support of the main sponsor was a shot in the arm for motor sports in Sri Lanka. Dr Senarath further added that it’s an event looked forward to by the drivers and riders and that SMSC will strive to achieve its goal of uplifting motor sports in the country.
Top driver Ashan Silva will defend the title which he has won four times overall, successively in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Last year Sangeeth Suriage emerged the top rider while Dilan Seneviratne achieved the fastest course time.
