Dian elected Vice Chairman of the AIBA Marketing Commission
Dian Gomes
Dian Gomes, who is an executive committee member of the world boxing governing body AIBA, was appointed as the vice chairman of the AIBA Marketing Commission out of 33 candidates. Out of the five members elected by the 200-member federation of AIBA, Gomes was chosen as the deputy to Cezary Jedlinski of Poland.
A former Sri Lankan junior flyweight boxing champion, Gomes has been a leading corporate personality for the better part of three decades. A former president of CIMA Sri Lankan Division, he was the Group Director of MAS Holdings and later Chairman of Hela Clothing.
As president of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, has been a strong advocate and supporter in building high-performing athletes, especially from rural areas.
He became the first Sri Lankan to be appointed to the Commonwealth Advisory Board of Sports in 2014 and is also the first Sri Lankan to be appointed to the Executive Committee of the Asian Boxing Federation last year.
Over the years he has also held successful tenures in AIBA as a member of the Finance Commission, the marketing commission and the women’s commission as well.
He currently serves as the Honorary Consul of Georgia in Sri Lanka and on the Board of Nestle Lanka PLC. He was also appointed to the Public Service Commission.
