Four excited graduates of UTS

Sri Lanka have made another important step towards their dream of studying abroad. They have now been granted their visas to study in Australia. This means that as soon as borders reopen, Vishnie Babeendran, Muzammil, Nuvin Perera and Insaaf Zuhree, who are currently studying remotely with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), will be on their way to Australia to complete their degrees.

Vishnie, who completed a Diploma of Engineering in 2020, is now studying for a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil). Muzammil is studying for his Bachelor of Business (Accounting), having completed a Diploma of Business. Nuvin and Insaaf both completed the Diploma of IT last year, and are now studying for a Bachelor of Computing Science (Hons). All four are delighted to have secured the prized student visas, and appreciate the role played by UTS College in helping them reach their goals.

Insaaf says, “Whenever we had issues with timetables or problems in general, their response was prompt. The faculty, including Miss Alison (principal Alison Hiscox) were all easily approachable and friendly. I think that’s what’s important – to develop good communication between students and staff. Their help didn’t just stop there. When I started applying for my visa I was in close contact with the UTS Sri Lanka faculty for help with my application, the support I got was amazing. It made the whole application process so much easier. I managed to get my visa in under four weeks. I’m grateful for their help and I’m sure they’ll continue supporting me.”

Vishni says “from day one UTS in Sri lanka supported me in every possible way and made my student Visa process a hassle free one. The advices they provide are spot on and they make the whole process crystal clear. I highly recommend UTS Sri lanka for any student who look for an Australian degree transfer programme”.

Preparing students as early as possible

Obtaining an Australian student visa is not always an easy process. UTS Sri Lanka students are eligible to apply on completion of their UTS pathway course – UTS Foundation Studies or a diploma pathway. However, UTS Sri Lanka begins preparing students for visa success well before this, at the end of their first semester. These preparations include one-on-one visa counselling sessions for students and parents, assistance applying for an offer letter to continue studies at UTS, guidance with first semester payments and Confirmation of Enrolment (COE), help arranging financial documents of visa purposes and with online submission of visa applications. Graduates of UTS Sri Lanka also meet the English requirement without any need for an additional IELTS test. Once students are headed for Australia, UTS Sri Lanka also assists with reserving Sydney accommodation and other pre-departure matters.

Ready to travel when borders reopen

Ms Alison Hiscox, Principal of UTS Sri Lanka, says, “We spend a lot of time helping students who choose to go through the visa application process with us and we are extremely proud to see our first group of graduates reach this important milestone. As soon as borders reopen they will be on their way and we wish them continued success.”

Enrollments still open

UTS Sri Lanka is still open for enrolments for the March intake, (students can apply for diploma courses with pending A-levels) and there are advantages for those who make an early start. Early birds are entitled to a guaranteed 25 percent scholarship and a registration fee waiver. UTS Sri Lanka also offers academic merit scholarships up to 100 percent. These include the Sri Lanka to Sydney Scholarship for academically gifted students who want to transfer from UTS Sri Lanka to UTS Australia.

Students who have completed their A-levels are eligible to apply for the UTS Sri Lanka Diploma of Engineering, Diploma of Business, or Diploma of Information Technology. Pending results are sufficient for enrolment. Similarly, students who have completed their O-levels can use their grade-point average to enrol in high quality English language programmes and UTS Foundation Studies. Students who successfully complete UTS Foundation Studies can gain entrance to many UTS undergraduate degrees, including Health Sciences, Nursing, Business, IT and Engineering.
