Celebrating Francophonie Day with Cinema
Celebrating the International Francophonie Day on March 20, a series of events including annual Bonjour Cinema, French Film Festival have been organised by the diplomatic missions of Canada, France and Switzerland, together with the Alliance Française de Kotte and the French Teachers’ Association of Sri Lanka.
In addition to film screenings nine other cultural and aesthetic events including concerts, conferences and musical events have been organised. Conducted from March 13 to 25 some of the events are organised online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Having organised a number of French feature films, the French Embassy will screen a collection of French short films on March 21 and 24.
Online screenings of four short films under the title ‘Short Films” Different, so what?’ will be available online on March 24. Short films ‘Blue Dog’ (2018 / 17 mn), Beautiful Loser (2018 / 24 mn), Venerman (2017 / 17 mn) and Miss Chazelles (2019 / 21 mn) will be aired for those who are interested in cinema.
On March 25, a collection of short films will be screened at 5.30 pm under the theme ‘Sustainable Planet’ at Alliance Française de Kotte, 11 KeppetipolaMawatha, Colombo 5.
The four short films Expire (2016 / 13 mn), La Parcelle (2018 / 20 mn), Plastic and Glass (2009 / 9 mn) and La Nuit des sacs plastiques (2018 / 18 mn) will be screened with English subtitles. Free screenings are open to all adults (+18 years old).

Throughout the month, Institut Français is to present a different selection of French short and feature films, available for free on IFcinéma à la carte and la Fête du court-métrage.
The physical events will take place strictly adhering to all health guidelines against COVID-19.
