Berendina conducts arts competition in the Central Region
View(s):An art competition was conducted under the themes of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and COVID-19 Pandemic in the Central region by Berendina Development Services (BDS) recently.
Asia Foundation partnered with BDS in organising the competition which was held from December 15, 2020 to March 5, 2021. The competition was conducted covering Watawala, Ginigathena and Hatton Police Divisions under three categories.
The first category was 12 to 20 years’ school girls, the second category for women in the community above 20 years and the third category was for the government staff of both men and women, BDS said in a media release.
The main objective of the art competition was to create awareness on SGBV and the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country. Leaflets on SGBV and COVID-19 were distributed to all the participants to create awareness while distributing the tools for the art competition.
It was a constructive approach for BDS to get an understanding on the idea that the community of the central region is having in relation to SGBV and COVID-19 pandemic. BDS received more than 800 applications for the competition.
A special exhibition was organized by BDS on March 5 at the Webstar International School in Hatton to display the best 100 entries.
