Goldmoon SC Ukuwela clinch Matale FL Presidents Trophy

Led by M.A.M. Asaan Ali, Goldmoon SC, Ukuwela walked away with the Matale FL Presidents Trophy when they beat Matale Youth SC 5-4 on penalties in the final of Matale District Inter-Club Knockout Football Championship 2021 played at the Bernard Aluvihare Stadium in Matale last weekend.
Amidst plenty of excitement, the closely contested final between Goldmoon SC and Matale Youth SC ended in a 1-all draw at full time. Goldmoon SC, who led 1-0 at the short whistle with a goal by centre forward M.R.M. Rukshan, failed to prevent the fight put in by Abdul Rahuman, who made the equalizer for Matale Youth in the dying stages of the game. The play was then extended to tie breaker system where Goldmoon SC emerged victors 5-4. The match was refereed by Athula Weerakkody.
Goldmoon players A. Divakaran was adjudged the best player while M. Asaan won the award for the upcoming player. H.M.N. Usman of Matale Juniors SC won the award for best goalkeeper while Master SC was picked as the disciplined team of the competition.
The tournament was organised and conducted by the Matale Football League under the guidance of its president K.R.M. Haris with 13 Division ‘A’ football clubs in the Matale district taking part.
Dr. Manil Fernando, the Chairman of the Medical Committee of Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), graced the presentation ceremony as chief guest with parliamentarian Rohana Dissanayake, Anura de Silva, the president of FFSL, R. Puwendran, the chairman of Finance Committee of FFSL and U.L.M. Latheeb, the long standing secretary of Matale FL as guests of honour.
