Lanka Cavaliers honour Aponso alias ‘Appu’
Lanka Cavaliers fondly remembered their team mate, the late Jayalath Aponso, popularly known as “Appu” at a Memorial Cricket T20 match against Vintage CC, which was played at the Kothalawela Defense University (KDU) grounds Ratmalana yesterday.
The two teams contested for the Jayalath Aponso Memorial Challenge Trophy donated by former Antonian and Colts CC cricketer, Anjelo Leanage who has also come forward to sponsor the match.
Lanka Cavaliers newly elected president, C.P.P. Raj, together with senior committee members, Manoj Perera, Nalliah Devarajan, Wasanthalal Fernando and Commodore Nishantha de Silva made elaborate plans to make the event a memorable one.
The Lanka Cavaliers was represented by Manoj Perera, (Capt) Riyaz Farouk, P.K. Abeygunasekera, Duminda Pinto, Ravi Subasinghe, Mahesh Wijenayake, Chaminda Rajapaksa, Carman Mapatuna, Brijesh Jeganathan, Sanjaya Attanayake, Susantha de Mel, Sampath Wickramarachchi, Shehan Abeygunasekera, Suranjith Dharmasena and Krishan Dharmasena.
Late Jayalath Aponso’ s widow, Devi Aponso graced the occasion as the chief guest.
