Senura and Bimandee claim double crowns
Senura Silva and Bimandee Bandara bagged double titles at the All-Island Open Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2020 held at the Municipal Council Indoor Stadium in Kegalle on March 20 and 21.
Senura, of Ananda College, won the Singles titles in the Boy’s Under-18 and Under-15 categories while Bimandee, of Hillwood College, Kandy, also claimed the double in the same age groups for Girls.
Senura recorded a comfortable 3-1 win against schoolmate Hiruna Warusavithana in the Under-18 Boy’s Singles final after claiming the Under-15 Boy’s Singles title against Janith Batugedara of Royal College, Colombo in straight sets.
Bimandee overcame Jithara Warnakulasuriya of Ladies College, Colombo by 3-1 to claim the Under-18 Girls’ Singles title after overcoming Oneli Lehansa of Musaeus College in straight sets to clinch the Under-15 Girls’ Singles championship.
The two-day tournament was organised and conducted by the Sabaragamuwa Province Table Tennis Association. Jagath Jayasinghe, the Chairman of Kegalle Pradeshiya Sabha graced the occasion as the chief guest while the guests of honour were Sulakshana Madana (Chief Executive Officer MAS Asia Investments), Tharanga Jayaweera (Member of Pradeshiya Sabha, Galigamuwa), Sameera Perera (Member of Municipal Council, Kegalle), Prabhath Priyantha (President of Sabaragamuwa Province TTA), Thushara Sampath (Secretary of Sabaragamuwa Province TTA) and D.M.G.S. Kumara (Chairman of Organising Committee).
