St. Thomas’ Matale record two wins
St. Thomas’ college Matale recorded their second successive win in the on going SLSCA Under-19 Division II Schools Limited Overs Cricket Tournament when they beat Taxila Central, Horana by 6 wickets at the college ground in Matale.
Invited to bat first Matale Thomians restricted Taxila Central to 98 runs in 25.4 overs with right-arm fast bowler Kasun Jayarathne capturing five wickets and left-arm spinner Sithul Wijesekara claiming two scalps to rattle the opponent’s batting lineup. St. Thomas’, in their run chase, knocked off the required run in the 18th over with six wickets in hand.
The Matale Thomians posted a 7-wicket win over Asoka Vidyalaya, Colombo earlier in their opening match of the same tournament played earlier at the same venue. Having bowled out visitors for 146 runs, Matale Thomians reached the target comfortably losing just three wickets in the 27th over, with Kavindu Senarathne leading the way with an unbeaten knock of 90 runs.
