Spin Soldiers gun down floppy Airmen
Army spinners Matheesh Theekshana (4/40), Dushan Vimukthi (3/19) and Seekkuge Prasanna (3/11) spun a web around Airmen to record an easy 8-wicket win in their Major Club Limited Over match played at Panagoda yesterday.
The trio ran through the Air Force batting order ferociously to bowl the visitors out for a meagre 110 in 32 overs–a target the hosts had little trouble in chasing. Airmen had begun well after put in to bat first reaching 28 at the end of the fifth over with all 10 wickets in tact. But Theekshan produced a fine spell of off-spin, claiming three wickets off his second over to leave Airmen reeling at 29-3. Vimukthi and Seekkuge joined Theekshana as they finished off things in style. Ashintha Madushan was the top scorer for Airmen scoring an unbeaten 24.
Army lost two wickets along the way but half centurion Ashan Randika (54n.o.) and Himasha Liyanage (25n.o.) ensured they reached the target inside 14 overs. Randika hit five sixes and three boundaries in his 37 ball innings while Himasha had four boundaries in his 14 ball knock.
BRC trounce Bloomfield
BRC produced a swashbuckling batting effort to record a massive 189-run win over Bloomfield at Reid Avenue. A half century by opener Leo Fransisco (82) propelled them to 247 by the end of 42nd over and a score of little over 300 was expected at that stage.
But Anuk Fernando, who joined skipper Dushan Hemantha at the fall of fifth wicket, put power-hitting on display scoring 106 runs off the last 48 balls. Skipper Hemantha was on beaten on 100, hitting five sixes and seven boundaries in his 73 ball innings but it was Anuk who stole the show hitting six sixes and four boundaries in his 26-ball 64.
BRC scored 352 runs off their 50 overs, a target beyond Bloomfield’s reach. Bloomfield were never in control of the match and succumbed to the off-spin of Umeshka Morais. The off spinner recorded career-best figures of 7 for 46 as Bloomfield lost last seven wickets for the addition of just 34 runs.
Baduraliya cease Kandy Customs
A quick-fire eighth wicket stand between Milinda Siriwardena and Nimanda Madushan set the foundation for Baduraliya SC’s crushing 91-run win over Kandy Custom in their match played at Welisara. Siriwardena made a run-a-ball 112 with 11 boundaries and two sixes while Madushanka hit five sixes and seven boundaries in his 51 ball 80 to propel their score to a formidable 258 all out.
Left-arm spinner Umaga Chathuanga was the pick of the bowler claiming four for 54 while Sampath Perera and Sachithra Perera shared two wicket apiece. Kandy Custom were bowled out for 167 with Buddika Sanjeewa, Tillakaratne Sampath, Chamikara Edirisinghe, Ruchira Koshitha and Alankara Asanka taking two wickets apiece.
SSC ease past Saracens
SSC beat Saracens by 49 runs in a low-scoring game played at Maitland Place. Batting first SSC managed just 232 runs with Danushka Gunathilake (51), Lakshitha Manasinghe (53) scoring half centuries. Chasing the modest total Saracens were stranded on 183 for seven at the end of their 50 overs with Navindu Vithanage unbeaten on 50.
Moors thrash Cops
Police SC succumbed to a heavy 162-run defeat at the hands of Moors SC at Police Park. After setting a target of 263 to win, Moors needed just 28.1 overs to bowl hosts out for 100 runs. Moors reached a formidable score of 262 thanks to a fine half century by skipper Mahela Udawatte (89) before Sachithra Serasinghe (5/24) and Praveen Jayawickrema (4/17) combined to earn a crushing win.
Kurunegala in easy win over Sebs
A well composed half century by Keshan Wanniarachchi (64) led Kurunegala YCC to a 5-wicket win over Sebastinatines in their match played at Moratuwa. Keshan played a calculated innings hitting two sixes and three boundaries to push for the victory. Batting first, Sebastianites scored 221 with Manelker de Silva (54) and Suchira Paranathala (51) hitting half centuries. Radeera Ranasinghe (3/47) and Naveen Gunawardena (3/38) shared six wickets between them.
