Schools to remain open, unless Health DG issues directive to close

Schools will continue to operate unless a directive is issued by the  Health Services Director General to close schools, a senior Education Ministry official said.

However,  a special programme has been put into effect to continue classes in schools amid an increase of COVID-19 cases.

One of the measures taken by the Education Ministry is the introduction of a committee in each school to monitor the COVID situation. Each committee will comprise parents of schoolchildren, area Public Health Inspectors, school development society members and other people.

The Education Ministry advised that each committee should meet on a daily basis to review the situation in each school.

Each committee is expected to take into consideration the situation in their school during the day, including any incidents where students affected with COVID-19 are detected, and take precautionary messages accordingly.

Decisions will be taken by the school administration based on the recommendation of the committee.

The ministry official said these decisions could include closing the school, closing a section of the school or any other decision. They said, if an area is locked down decisions will be taken accordingly.
