View(s):Chemistry Olympiad Sri Lanaka (COSL) committee of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon invites students with three A passes (3As) obtained at the G.C.E (A/L) examination held in 2020 including Chemistry as a subject to apply for the selection examination of the International Chemistry Olympiad. Students with three A* passes obtained at the Cambridge or Edexcel International Examination including Chemistry as a subject are also eligible to apply. The age of the applicants must be below 20 years of age on July 1, 2021, and should not have been enrolled at any university by this date.
Due to the Covid19 pandemic situation in the country, regular National Chemistry Olympiad competition was not held in the year 2021. Therefore, the COSL committee has decided to select students for this year’s final round based on the Advanced Level results.
Accordingly, the COSL committee shall select 30-35 applicants for the final round of the selection examination based on their A/L results. Before the final examination, several online training workshops shall be conducted by the university lecturers to teach the difficult areas that will be tested at the Chemistry Olympiad competition. Four students will be selected from the final round examination to represent Sri Lanka at the International Chemistry Olympiad which will be held remotely in Japan in July 2021. In the year 2020, Sri Lanka won three bronze medals and an honorable mention at the International Chemistry Olympiad competition.
Questions of the final selection examination are similar to the preparatory questions posted by the IChO for 2021. Applicants are advised to visit https://www.icho2021.org/ website for more details, and to download the preparatory questions and past Chemistry Olympiad questions.
