Navy takes on new CSR project to develop underprivileged schools

View(s):

The Sri Lanka Navy, has launched another social responsibility initiative this year, under the directives and guidance of Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenne, to develop selected underprivileged schools in the country.

The prime motive of the project is to create a more conducive learning environment for underprivileged school children.

Accordingly, this project was launched in the Western, Eastern, North Central, Northwestern, Southeastern, Southern and Northern Naval Commands on  April 19.

The Financial contribution extended voluntarily by all officers and sailors from their monthly salaries is utilised for the project, while the Navy also enables manpower required for the construction work.

The Navy marked the beginning of a school facility development project by embarking on a social responsibility mission to develop facilities of certain schools which lacked some basic amenities.

Accordingly, in line with the 70th Anniversary of the Navy, a financial allocation of Rs. 4.5 million was made available to each naval command to develop eight underprivileged schools, selected by seven naval commands island-wide, to support the education of children in remote areas with less facilities.
