Former and present stars to glitter at SLC charity game
The Sri Lanka Greats and Team Sri Lanka squads that will play a Twenty20 charity game, organised by Sri Lanka Cricket, to raise funds to fight COVID-19, were announced by the organisers with known faces set to feature in the one-off game.
Sri Lanka Greats includes almost half of the players from the Legends side that played in the Road Safety World Series T20, besides Aravinda de Silva, Upul Chandana, Indika de Saram, Saman Jayantha and Jehan Mubarak. Continuing to play cricket from the recently concluded competition are Sanath Jayasuriya, Farveez Maharoof, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thilina Thushara, Dhammika Prasad, Chamara Silva and Malinda Warnapura while Hashan Tillekeratne has been named as the coach of the side.
Team Sri Lanka, led by Dasun Shanaka, will include players representing the National, Emerging, and Development Squads of Sri Lanka Cricket. Among those named in the squad are Kusal Janith Perera, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Isuru Udana, Ramesh Mendis, Sadeera Samarawikrama, Thisara Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Chamika Karunaratne, Lakshan Sandaken, Roshen Silva, Asitha Fernando and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth.
The charity game which will be played on May 4 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium beginning from 7.00pm. The funds raised out of the proposed T20 game will be directed to help Sri Lanka’s response towards fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
