The College of Chemical Sciences (CCS), acts as the educational arm of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC), the professional body of chemists in Sri Lanka. CCS, a widely acclaimed institution in Sri Lanka for tertiary education in the chemical sciences, currently offers the Bachelor of Science Honours (BSc Hons) degree in Chemical Science and the Graduateship in Chemistry (GIC) Programme. The BSc (Hons) degree in Chemical Science is a four-year, full-time programme designed as per the Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) Level 6 and accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education of Sri Lanka. It offers a unique subject combination of Chemistry and Management, catering to a wide variety of academic and industry-based career opportunities. For over forty years, the Institute has been renowned for its GIC qualification, which also entails a four year programme in Chemistry. It is a professional qualification accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK and is recognised by the UGC as having satisfied the basic requirements of registration for a Postgraduate Diploma/Degree programme in Chemistry of a University. GIC graduates are equipped with a solid in-depth understanding of the concepts of Chemistry and have shown colors in both academia and the corporate world.
The intake for 2021 is still open, and here’s your chance to pursue a degree in Chemistry at attractive rates! Guided by the purpose of offering an obstacle-free education to its students, CCS provides various financial alternatives to those in need. Under the interest free student loan scheme provided by the Ministry of Higher Education, twenty scholarships have already been awarded to the students of the 2021 intake. In addition, CCS offers numerous scholarships and financial benefits for prospective students upon enrollment. In order to receive a CCS Financial Aid Scholarship, the applicant should be in need of financial assistance and should preferably have obtained a minimum ‘B’ grade for Chemistry at the Advanced Level examination (Local or London). Introduced with the sole purpose of empowering the sports culture at CCS, the CCS Sports Scholarships are offered for prospective students who have won school colours or national-level achievements in cricket. Furthermore, applicants with achievements in rugby, badminton and basketball will also be considered.
