Kandy three-wheelers to be regulated
The 5,000-strong three-wheeler drivers in the Kandy Police Division would come under one umbrella, with the computerising of their parking areas and their names and photographs.
This is a two-prong approach, Kandy Division, Superintendent of Police (Traffic), D C D Illangakoon, told the Sunday Times, in having a ‘tab’ on the activities of these three-wheelers, and also a safeguard to the public using this mode of travel. He added that this was a concept by Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake (Crimes and Traffic) at Police Headquarters.
SP Illangakoon said three-wheelers would have a number and their photograph on the three-wheeler. The Traffic Police on patrol would also have these numbers, and they would be able to detect or help any three-wheeler or their passengers. This could curb crime, SP Illangakoon added.
At a previous meeting held with Governor Lalith U Gamage, SP Illangakoon pointed out that three-wheeler parks are seen all over Kandy and even between the under-construction railway line between Peradeniya and Kandy. He adds that these could be regulated with the computerising and the creation of a three-wheeler database.
