The Consumer Affair Authority (CAA) has banned blending of edible coconut oil with any other oil.

A gazette notification to this effect was issued by CAA Chairman Maj.Gen. (Retd.) Shantha Dissanayake on Friday night.

As per the gazette, all importers, refiners, manufacturers, stockists, packers, distributors and traders of edible coconut oil sold in bulk or in retail in bottles or packs or containers have been directed not to blend such edible coconut oil with any other oils or oil.

The move follows the recent scandal involving contaminated coconut oil. It was revealed that several stocks of imported coconut oil contained cancer-causing aflatoxin.
