The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has informed its registrants that before anyone makes claims on the discovery of new medicines for COVID-19, they should have those medicines evaluated and approved by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).

“The SLMC may initiate appropriate disciplinary action as per the Medical Ordinance on practitioners who fail to comply with this instruction,” the SLMC states, requesting the media to verify with the NMRA whether such approval has been granted prior to giving publicity to such claims.

The public may also raise any concerns they have regarding such claims in writing or via email to president@mc.lk, the SLMC adds.
