View(s):The Sri Lanka Veterinary Association launches many firsts to mark World Veterinary Day
The Sri Lanka Veterinary Association (SLVA) celebrated World Veterinary Day on April 24, at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo, introducing ambitious new initiatives such as the “Vet Mobile” App, “Your Veterinarian Magazine”, “Voice of Veterinarians” video series and the SLVA platform on public communication as well as the Vet Expo 2021. Among those present at the event were State Minister of Livestock, Farm Promotion, Dairy and Egg related Industries D. B. Herath, Additional Secretary of the Ministry Dr Niroshan Gamage, SLVA President
Dr Erandika Gunawardena and other office bearers of
the SLVA.
In keeping with this year’s theme – “Veterinarians Response to the COVID-19 Crisis’’ - the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association recognized the services of veterinarian scientists in conducting research and their creative innovations, in addition to their engagement in the One Health collaborative approaches. The One Health concept was successfully utilized for the conceptualization of public awareness campaigns and management of PCR testing laboratories in different districts with regard to COVID-19.
The SLVA will also launch a Vet Magazine to disseminate knowledge and information to the public. This initiative aims to enhance public engagement with veterinarians resolving common health-related problems in animals. The Magazine will feature a miscellany of topics including the history of the veterinary profession, companion and farm animal sectors, veterinary pharmaceuticals and more.
The “Voice of Veterinarian” Video Series developed by the SLVA elaborates on the diversified roles played by veterinarians in the country.
Plans were also announced for VET-EXPO to be held from December 17-19, where animal lovers will be able to explore the numerous services and solutions made available by the veterinary profession in animal healthcare, welfare
and management.
