The pandemic has highlighted the volatility and uncertainty that is the modus operandi of a world so closely knitted by globalisation. This revelation has a resounding impact on the education sphere, where the need to be qualified and geared with transferable 21st-century skills is more critical, now more than ever.

For Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) – Sri Lanka’s pioneering education solutions provider in foreign qualifications in technology and related disciplines – the onset of the pandemic has brought about a new vigour in its mission to offer the highest quality international education to Sri Lankan students.

Founder President and CEO Eng. Ranjith Rubasinghe

Since its inception in 2015 as the first research-based, residential, private university, SLTC has maintained strong industry links locally and internationally, offering a wide array of Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission-approved degrees and diplomas. It also upholds several mutually beneficial partnerships with a range of foreign universities such as Deakin University, Australia, Lancaster University, UK, University Of Auckland, New Zealand and RMIT University, Australia & Vietnam, to name a few. This mix of local and international partnerships has resulted in SLTC offering a fully-fledged portfolio of pre-foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and professional degree programmes in a diverse mix of disciplines

SLTC recently opened its 2021 intake, resulting from the institution’s partnership with the prestigious Deakin University, Australia, to offer study support for  four new degree programmes to be conducted online on Deakin’s “Cloud Campus”: Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence (3 years), Bachelor of Computer Science (3 years), Bachelor of Information Technology (3 years) & Bachelor of Software Engineering (4 years).

Students who wish to apply for the upcoming July 2021 intake of these programmes are guaranteed a 50% tuition fee discount (approximately 2.6 million Sri Lankan rupees discount per year) for the entire duration of their study online in Sri Lanka.

“Today’s world is run by technology – the advancements are so vast and fast that students must equip themselves with relevant, up to date and recognised qualifications in these disciplines,” says Founder President and CEO Eng. Ranjith Rubasinghe, emphasising that the new programmes have been added to SLTC’s portfolio to ensure that student’s get the best learning experience.

The SLTC-Deakin partnership is a unique arrangement facilitated by Sri Lankan-born academic Prof. Bas Baskaran – Associate Dean – International & Partnerships of the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Built Environment at Deakin University. The partnership enables students enrolling in any of the Deakin University programmes offered with SLTC study support from Sri Lanka to be considered internal students of the Australian university and get access to the authentic ‘Deakin Experience’ via Deakin’s Cloud Campus, which has over 60,000+ active global students.

“These students are considered Deakin students from Day One and have direct access to all resources including Deakin faculty and online access to Deakin’s support services which are the same given to on-campus students in Australia. With Deakin University being a highly sought after campus which is ranked among the top 1% universities worldwide by The Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Rankings) we are offering the 50% scholarship to encourage and incentivise school-leavers to pursue higher education in technology-related subjects, overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic”, further explained Mr.Rubasinghe

He further noted that whilst the offer was aimed at making education affordable and accessible, SLTC is also pursuing more meaningful collaborations within the year to expand its offering.

Furthering its commitment to quality education, SLTC also launched its Centre for Global Education (CGE) early this year to serve as an education hub for faculty and students. “The CGE is dedicated to globalising research, teaching and outreach missions, facilitating direct transfers and assisting students upon request to leverage competencies to meet global expectations,” he states.

Mr. Rubasinghe  said “The value of acclaimed, internationally recognised degrees are priceless in today’s ever-changing environment, and this is why SLTC continues to develop and nurture partnerships with some of the world’s leading universities, like Deakin University, Australia, so that we can offer the best programmes available to our students,”
