Teachers, principals and non-academic staff to be vaccinated from tomorrow
View(s):The programme to vaccinate all school teachers will begin tomorrow(July 12), Education Minister G.L. Peiris said this week.
All 10,155 school teachers, principals and non-academic staff members of all schools across the country will be vaccinated during this programme, which is due to be completed in a week, the Minister said at a media briefing on Thursday.
He said teachers will be given priority in the vaccination programme, as the Government hopes to reopen schools as soon as possible.
The Government was also hoping to reopen all schools with less than 100 students,as a first step in reopening schools. Government assisted schools and pirivenas will also reopen soon, Prof.Peiris said at the briefing.
He said the Government cannot keep schools closed indefinitely and the speedy conclusion of the vaccination programme will enable them to reopen schools quickly.
