Joint trade unions at the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) have requested the authorities to ensure job security of the workers at the National Holiday Resorts which is being considered to be leased out.

While the employees at these holiday resorts in Bandarawela, Kataragama and Anuradhapura have requested their jobs be secured without claiming that the resorts they were running were operating at a loss, the joint trade unions of Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya and Podujana Peramuna said this week.

In a letter to the SLTDA Chairperson the Podujana Peramuna trade union on July 12 stated that they will resort to trade union action should the jobs of the employees currently serving in the National Holiday Resorts be lost.

Authorities at the SLTDA were planning to lease out these facilities to the private sector claiming that they were running at a loss.

In separate letters sent by the three National Holiday Resorts to the Director General, the managers have requested to allow them to continue their functions.
