Karate Kid Dulanjana, aiming high
View(s):Fourteen-year-old Y.D. Dulanjana Bandara is a promising Karateka, studying at Vijaya National College Matale. By now he has achieved several victories in martial art at district, provincial and national level.
Dulanjana won a gold medal for his first place in the Under-13 Kumite event at the Central Province Karate-do Championship in 2019 held at the Municipal Indoor Stadium in Kandy. He was also awarded a bronze medal for his third place in the Kata event at the same competition.
At district level he excelled to bag two gold medals for his first place in both Kata and Kumite events in the Matale District Karate -do Championship which was also held at Municipal Indoor Stadium in Kandy.
As a 11-year-old, Dulanjana had the distinction of winning the first place in kumite at the Open Karate-do Championship in 2017 conducted by Senshi Shotokan Karate Association at Shalika Hall in Narahenpita. Dulanjana Bandara is a student of sensei Upali Sirisena. He is also a member of the Vijaya College junior athletic and hockey teams.
During the drought of events which affected many young athletes through the year of 2020 and 2021, Dulanjana continues to engage in daily training with hopes of entering into competitions as soon as action returns.
