Door-to-door vaccination begins
The rollout of vaccines for those who were not able to access the centres has begun with health staff going from door-to-door.
Several families in some areas of Colombo had called the Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) on Monday and been told that they would be given the jab on Wednesday. Thereafter, the authorities had called these families on Wednesday and arrived with vaccines stored in rigifoam boxes and administered the jabs in their homes.
Meanwhile, officials of the Madurawala Medical Officer of Health (MOH) office in the Kalutara district told a media briefing on Friday how they too had initiated the door-to-door jab programme on Wednesday and Thursday (July 21 and 22).
“Kanduwala geval thiyena wathukaraye ayata, api gihin ennatha dunna,” said Public Health Nursing Sister B.M. Wanigatunge, explaining that those who were living in estates in mountainous areas who were unable to come to the vaccinating centres were inoculated in their homes.
Around 450 people over 60 years of age in these areas had got the jab during the two-day programme.
