Theatre is back with a weekend festival
View(s):Following the close down of the country due to Covid-19 pandemic and along with that theatre and cinema, the curtain will rise again for stage plays with a week-end theatre festival at 3.30 pm and 7 pm from August 7 to 28 at the Lionel Wendt theatre, Colombo.
Organised by Jude Srimal, the festival will kick off with Prof. Ediriweera Sarathchandra’s ‘Maname’ on August 7 while Dayananda Gunawarden’s ‘Madhura Jawanika’ will be staged on Sunday August 8.
On August 14 Asoka Handagama’s ‘Antique Kadayaka Maranayak’ or A death at an Antique Shop (Recommended only for adults) while R. R. Samarakone’s ‘Kelani Palama’ will be staged on August 15.
On August 21 Somalatha Subasinghe’s two children’s plays ‘Punchi Apita Den Therei’ and ‘Thoppi Welenda’ will go on the boards.
The last weekend of August, the maiden show of Chamila Priyanka’s play ‘Sanga Wedha Guru Govi Kamkaru’ will be staged on August 28 while the new production of Rohana Dandeniya’s ‘Raassa Saha Parassa’ will on the boards on August 29.
Only 50 percent of the total seating capacity will be available and the plays will be staged following the strict health guidelines.
