Second AstraZeneca vaccine stocks come from Japan

The second batch of 727,380 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine donated through the COVAX facility by Japan arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday with transportation support from UNICEF.

The consignment brought the total number of AstraZeneca doses donated by Japan to
Sri Lanka through the COVAX dose-sharing mechanism to over 1.4 million. The first batch of the vaccines, containing over 728,000 doses, was delivered on July 31.

Meanwhile, 4 million Sinopharm vaccine doses were flown to Sri Lanka from Beijing yesterday onboard three special SriLankan Airlines cargo flights. The airline stated that it has provided transport facilities to bring in 16.5 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China since March.
