View(s):All credit for the smooth vaccination operation at Viharamahadevi Park
I was pleasantly surprised to receive an SMS for my second dose of the AstraZeneca, however, was dismayed I was not going to be available on the scheduled date, due to a personal family emergency. My sister, domestic help and I decided we would try our chances at the Viharamahadevi Park on Sunday August 1, despite numerous friends and acquaintances advising against it, warning us of an unruly stampede and mayhem etc. We were fortunate to find parking opposite the Town Hall at 6 a.m. and joined the queue at 6.15. We were prepared for a waiting period of at least a few hours. What a pleasant surprise then that we were out by 7.15 a.m., an hour precisely. The Army personnel had it all organised to a fault including a selection of music thrown in to create a cheerful atmosphere. They stayed helpful and professional right through.
Our sincere appreciation and congratulations to the Government and Health Ministry officials, military personnel, volunteers and all involved in providing free and equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccination so efficiently despite some initial drawbacks and failures.
The mass vaccination drive will undoubtedly help our country return to a semblance of normalcy while enabling the fiscally vulnerable to earn a living. Too often we tend to complain when things don’t go as smoothly as we would wish them to, so it is only apt to give credit where it is due.
Well done!

Why not increase the investment limit further
Reference the letter published last Sunday regarding ‘Dual citizens and double standards’, since LKR 1.5 Mn seems peanuts for dual citizens and the Finance Minister, I would like to add to this important suggestion by a very senior dual citizen.
Considering all price levels, to increase the investment limit accordingly at least to USD 25,000 to be reasonable!
