SLLC to reschedule remaining final year papers, dates to be announced
View(s):Amidst growing pressure from law students and the worsening COVID situation, Sri Lanka Law College announced it has postponed the remaining papers of the final year examination.
“The Incorporated Council of Legal Education decided to postpone the two remaining papers (Commercial Law I and Commercial Law II) of the Final Year Examination. The rescheduled dates for these papers will be announced in due course,” Shehan C.Perera, Acting Principal of Law College announced recently.
Final year students had only two papers left, scheduled for August 13 and August 17.
Sri Lanka Law College Student Union started an online petition voicing out concerns raised by students over the safety and well-being, given the recent spike in the country’s COVID-19 situation.
“Law College was conducting examination these days with the participation of over 1400 students from all over the country at Lumbini College in Colombo. We believe that now is not the ideal time to accommodate such a large group, especially since they come from various parts of the country including Jaffna, Kandy, Galle, etc. As they are unable to stay in Colombo they travel back and forth each day which further expands the risk of spreading the virus from Colombo to outstation areas,” a union member said.
“The majority of the student population is below 30 years of age; as a result, they have not received the COVID-19 vaccine yet. Therefore, the majority of the students are exposed to grave danger in terms of health,” the union member added.
