Following a decision to invite tourists from India from next Wednesday, the Government has decided to fly down tourists from Israel where the number of COVID 19 cases is on the rise despite vaccinating a majority of its citizens.

Along with Israel, Sri Lanka will be inviting tourists from Russia and European countries. Plans are underway to fly in tourists from France in November.

Israel is currently recording the world’s highest daily infection rates — an average of nearly 7,500 confirmed cases a day, double what it was two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the Government is going ahead with plans to fly in tourists from India starting from next Wednesday though the number of COVID19 cases is on the rise again in India.

Tourism Ministry officials said Indian tourists would be flown in from seven locations, including Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore. Tourists from New Delhi would be flown in after October.

They said talks were being held to operate four flights a week to Chennai, three to Mumbai and one to Bangalore.

Tourists who will be flown after a PCR test and would have to take a PCR test on arrival also. If they test  negative, they will be permitted to travel to wildlife parks, heritage sites, and botanical gardens under a travel bubble.
