Rising stars from the East
The Faculty of Health-Care Sciences (FHCS) of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka (EUSL) emerged champions at the first Inter-Medical Faculty Neurology Quiz conducted by the Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists (ASN) recently.
The winning Eastern University team comprised Chandrasegaran Lalinshan, Meera Lebbe Aqeel Mohammed, Rajamanickam Abinaya, Mohamed Fazi Fathima Luthah, Tharmaretnam Thanushkanth, and Patkunarajah Thayani.
Students from eight state universities and the KDU Medical Faculty competed for the honours. At the closely contested final, Eastern University and the University of Colombo were tied at equal points, then after two nail-biting tie breaker rounds, the Eastern University team emerged champions. The University of Colombo and the University of Jaffna were the first and second runners up respectively.
For the first time, teams from both the Eastern University and University of Jaffna learnt together and from each other through a collaborative training programme conducted via Zoom and other online platforms.
The Jaffna team members were Balathayalan Yathev, Amarasingha Arachchilage Darshana Roshan Amarasingha, Sampavi Ramanan, Suvethini Loganathan, Ghobika Raveendran and Sooriyapraba Shiyananth
Both teams were trained by Dr Ajini Arasaligam, Consultant Neurologist and Senior lecturer in Medicine, University of Jaffna, Dr P. Mayurathan, Consultant Physician and Senior lecturer in Medicine, Eastern University and Dr M. Roshini, Senior lecturer in Pharmacology, Eastern University.
