Parents, students and vendors facing difficulties due to bookshop closures
This week, the Sri Lanka Book Publishers’ Association said it was prepared to conduct the annual book exhibition as soon as the country’s COVID situation improves.
The publishers’ conveyed their position when their members met with Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena about the issue arising from the closure of bookshops.
They took up the issues faced by bookshop owners, parents and students because of the closures due to the current COVID situation in the country. They also pointed out that students have faced difficulties because they need books for general education and online education.
The students of international schools have also faced the same problems, since they have been issued new book lists. The publishers requested the Minister to make the necessary arrangements for bookshops to be opened for at least two hours each day during the lockdown.
