For this family of crafts people trekking miles to sell their wares during a 'lockdown' of sorts, it is akin to "I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep"

The Covid-19 pandemic has dealt a tremendous blow to many people’s livelihoods.

Some are trying to exploit this situation to earn money, while some are being severely impacted by it. With a raging number of positive cases, and several restrictions implemented to contain the spread of the coronavirus, a family of three who manufacture bamboo products are in much difficulty.

The father, mother and daughter of this family, in Paramkanda village, Anamaduwa, craft bamboo products as their means of livelihood. They walk miles to sell their bamboo products. However, their attempts are futile with social distancing and movement restrictions on.

A 70-year-old father, his wife and their 35-year-daughter (a mother of three children) say that they strive to live from the earnings gained from the bamboo crafting business.

Despite the 20 long miles they walked, no one was interested in purchasing their crafts. They become more desperate when they think of their kids at home in hunger.

The hardships of these artisans not considered by those in administrative positions.
