Positive COVID test reports turn negative after Nayake thera complains to PHI
Ven. Urulewatte Dharmaakitta Nayake Thera, the Chief Incumbent of the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya, has called on the authorities to launch a probe on irregularities surrounding the PCR tests carried out on him and those who were engaged in organising the temple’s recent perahera.
The Nayake thera, who is also a senior member of the Asgiri Maha Vihare Karaka Sangha Sabha, told the Sunday Times the PCR tests on him and 27others turned out to be positive but the second PCR tests that were carried out following his protest to the Public Health Inspector turned out to be negative.
Thera said he did not understand how reports which were positive at first could turn out to be negative after he protested to the PHI.
He said the manner in which these PCR tests were done should be probed.
In the meantime, nearly 17 Navy personnel working on a project at Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya tested COVID positive.
They were immediately removed from the project and sent for quarantine.
The Nayake thera said that this issue needed the attention of the authorities.
