Ragala estate gets 166 new houses

A ceremony to hand over 166 houses constructed by UN Habitat using funds provided by the Indian Government was held at Lederset Estate in Ragala, Nuwara Eliya on Monday.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and visiting Indian Foriegn Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla joined the ceremony via Zoom from Temple Trees. They were joined by State Minister of Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure, Jeevan Thondaman, Foreign Minister G L Peiris, Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and other ministers and officials.

The houses were handed over to their new occupants by Chairman of the Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha, Velu Yogaraja, representing the Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) and other representatives, after performing traditional Hindu rituals.
