Sri Lanka will host the 18th the World HR International Conference in December as a virtual event giving a tremendous boost to showcase the country’s potential talent pool following the COVID-19 pandemic, said Jayantha Amarasinghe, President, CIPM Sri Lanka at a media briefing held at the CIPM Head Office in Colombo last week.

He said the theme of the Congress “Exalting People Professionals amidst a planetary pandemic: Explore Expand and Excel” has been selected as a people’s factor. The three days of deliberation will focus on digitalisation, disruption, diversity and diligence regarding human resource management.

The conference will be addressed by renowned speakers sharing insights and ideas on HR development. “We take pride in hosting this event in Sri Lanka online. In a world disrupted pandemic we need resilience and inspirational leadership to proceed to the future. New expectations and challenges have emerged in a new world of work. Innovation, best practices in people engagement and trust is critical to achieve sustainable growth to build our future,” he said.

CIPM Sri Lanka – the nation’s leader in human resource management – together with the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA) and Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM), is organising the world’s most premier people event “World HR Congress 2021” to be held from December 6 to 8 as a virtual event hosted in Colombo.

The event brings together continental federations and the national associations of 93 countries which make up the WFPMA.

Dhammika Fernando, Chairman, World HR Congress 2021 and the Immediate Past President CIPM Sri Lanka, said the World HR Congress is being held at a very crucial juncture of mankind. “We are dealing with many complexities on top of this pandemic with people, planet and profits. The new industrial era has already dawned and we are on the 5th industrial revolution where human and machines will help humans increase labour productivity,” he said, adding that the World HR Congress is held every two years.

Prof. Ajantha Dharmasiri, Co-chair of the World HR Congress 2021 and a Past President of CIPM Sri Lanka, said Sri Lanka made a strong bid this time to grant it the hosting rights of the event. Having an international HR conference of this magnitude will showcase Sri Lanka to the rest of the world.

“Despite the doom of a devastating pandemic, we see the boom of the people factor in corporates with a deeper realisation of the value of human wellbeing. World HR Congress 2021 invites people professionals to engage in a cutting-edge learning endeavour towards expansion,” he said.

With an impressive line-up of speakers and panelists sharing insights and experiences, networking opportunities with professionals to share best practices in people management in the new world of work, the HR Congress 2021 provides a rare opportunity for people, professionals and business leaders to mitigate the risks and challenges in a new world of work.
