NSBM Green University celebrates 5 years of excellence in its exceptional higher education journey
View(s):NSBM Green University, the premier degree awarding institute in Sri Lanka, celebrated its 5th anniversary on Tuesday, 26th October. Commemorating five glorious years of its victorious journey, the university marked its 5 year anniversary with a simple yet prestigious ceremony while adhering to the existing health guidelines of the country.
This ceremonious commemoration was held at NSBM Green University premises in Pitipana, Homagama, and was graced by the honourary presence of Dr. Seetha Arambepola, Hon. State Minister of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation as the chief guest and the other distinguished guests including Mrs. Deepa Liyanage, the Secretary to the State Ministry.
As part of this anniversary celebration, the university had planned a lineup of special events and activities. One such event was the opening of the new playground, a signature construction activity under NSBM Green University–Phase II, the ongoing construction project in another 15 acres of land adjoining the existing university premises.
The ceremony was commenced with the graceful arrival of the chief guest, Hon. Minister Dr. Seetha Arambepola at the university premises. Hon. Minister was welcomed by Prof. E A Weerasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor of NSBM Green University and brought to the Phase-II construction site with a briefing on its ongoing developments and full-site development plan.
Then, as the state minister unveiled the opening plaque, the new playground was officially declared open and dedicated to the NSBM student community. Moreover, in keeping with the university’s green initiatives, a tree planting event also took place with the patronage of Dr. Seetha Arambepola, as a commemorative activity of the ceremony.
In commemorating the victorious journey of NSBM Green University, the university launched an illustrative book, “Our Journey 2016-2021”, which brings glimpses of events and its expansion in infrastructure, technology, education, and research over these five years since its inception in 2016. Further, a special commemoratory issue of the NSBM’s bi-annual magazine publication, “Business Dialogue”, was also published in line with the university’s 5th anniversary celebration.
The first copies of these publications were ceremonially handed over to Hon. Minister Dr. Seetha Arambepola at the occasion.
The event was further glamoured by Prof. Chaminda Rathnayake, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Baratha Dodankotuwa, Head of Academic and Quality Assurance, Top Management, Deans, Heads, Academic and Non-Academic staff, and students of NSBM.
To further mark this 5 year milestone in its journey, NSBM Green University will be signing MoU with five leading companies in Sri Lanka for future collaborative engagements.
Apart from that, as another exciting celebratory activity, the Welfare Society of NSBM is to produce a youth-targeted 50 episode tele-series called “Nannaththara”, which is to be directed by the award-winning creative artist Jayantha Chandrasiri. The muhurath ceremony of the teledrama was held on 27th October at the university premises.
NSBM Green University is a self-financed institute that operates under the purview of the State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation. It was officially bestowed upon the nation in Pitipana, Homagama on 26th October 2016.
Over these five successful years, NSBM has evolved into becoming a highly responsible higher education institute that offers unique higher educational opportunities in Sri Lanka. With the remarkable success and accomplishments achieved within a short span of time, this 5 year anniversary marks a key milestone in the history of NSBM Green University.
