TNA team invited by US Govt. to discuss political issues
View(s):A Tamil National Alliance (TNA) delegation is to visit the United States later this month to drum up support for the party’s stand on political issues.
The three-member delegation has been invited by the US Government. It will comprise K. Kanag-isvaran PC, Dr. Nirmala Chandrahasan and M.A. Sumanthiran PC.
Party spokesperson Sumanthiran told the Sunday Times the TNA would brief US officials on their proposal for a federal solution on power devolution in view of a new constitution being drafted by the Government.
“We will explain what our political aspirations are and how we intend to reach a solution to the conflict by exploring federal structures which are similar to what the US has in nature and in other countries,” Mr. Sumanthiran said.
In 2011, a TNA delegation led by R. Sampanthan visited the US and met senior officials at the US State Department and the office of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) to garner support for its political demands.
