Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy initiate ‘Plant a Tree’ project
View(s):The young lasses of Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy were actively involved in a social campaign that initiated the planting of 5000 trees in and around the area of Polonnaruwa recently. The project, ‘Plant a Tree’ fully funded by Sylvia Lanka Foundation, a group that supports the Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy in their venture to popularise football among girls of the area, was greatly supported by police and military institutions of the area.
“It was a very good initiative the girls of Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy took part with great interest. By today the girls have earned a little stardom in and around the area. This was a project that came to us from one of our sponsors, who were keen to see the girls get involved in social and environment friendly activities. It gathered a massive interest among the people of the area too, with the support of others,” stated the Head Coach of the academy, Pubudu Saman Paranagama, who also happens to be the football coach at Bandiwewa Maha Vidyalaya.
The main programme of the initiative was held at the Aralaganvila Police Training School with its Director, Superintendant of Police K.D. Chandrapala taking the leadership. In addition trees were planted at the Aralaganvila Civil Security Force Headquarters, the army camps of Bakamuna, Mannar and Anuradhapura and in the gardens of all members of the Polonnaruwa Girls’ Football Academy.
