Wushu coaches’ training programme in Kandy
The training programme for national and school coaches, conducted for the fifth occasion by Sri Lanka Wushu Federation (SLWF), will be held from November 10 to 14 at the Coorporative Development Centre in Polgolla, Kandy.
The programme will cover the latest and updated method in wushu coaching and training and according to SLWF, coaches who fail to obtain a license from the course, will be identified as ineligible to engage at schools as coaches.
In addition, SLWF has been granted official permission by Ministry of Education to reinstall the ‘Sanda’ (duel or combat) version and during the upcoming training programme, this segment will be trained to school coaches.
“It’s after 12 years that we have obtained the official permission from the Education Ministry to include the ‘Sanda’ segment back into school-level competitions. We will start training coaches again. Of course, we will be highly concerned about the safety of the schoolchildren and all those areas will be covered during the five-day programme,” stated Manel Dharmakeerthi, the President of SLWF.
In addition SLWF will open doors to participants of the programme to take part at coaches training programmes to be held overseas during the year 2022.
“For those who intend to represent the country in the capacity of an official or coach, it’s mandatory to obtain the licence to take part in any upcoming International, World Junior, Asian or South Asian wushu events,” added Dhramakeerthi, who revealed that intended participants could contact the SLWF Secretary, Vijith Edirisinghe or Ajith Atapattu, the Secretary of the school’s wushu section for more details.
