Daraz CEO visits Sri Lanka

Daraz Group CEO, Bjarke Mikkelsen visited Sri Lanka on 25-26 November 2021 and during his visit he met with key government leaders and officials including, Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth & Sports and State Minister of Digital Technology and Enterprise Development; Tharaka Balasuriya, State Minister of Regional Cooperation; Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor – Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Oshada Senanayake, Chairman of the Information and Communication Technology Agency and Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.
During these meetings Mr. Mikkelsen expressed Daraz’s commitment to boosting e-commerce innovation and growth in Sri Lanka, and discussed key initiatives that Daraz will take forward with the government and relevant agencies to increase e-commerce related jobs in Sri Lanka and raise the standards of education related to online marketplaces and buying and selling online, the company said in a media release.
“With a strong public-private partnership we are confident that e-commerce will become a vital industry that not only creates jobs but provides many other opportunities for communities across the island,” said Mr. Mikkelsen.
Daraz Sri Lanka aims to have at least 100,000 active and educated small and medium enterprises selling on its platform, which in turn could lead to at least 300,000-400,000 new jobs in Sri Lanka.
