The convocation was declared open by Prof. Srianthie Deraniyagala, President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, followed by the conferment of designations and certificates to 163 Graduate Chemists, 1 Licentiate Chemist, 3 Advanced Diplomates in Chemistry, 4 Diplomates in Chemistry and 55 Diplomates in Laboratory Technology. The Shireen Jayasuriya Memorial Gold Medal for the Best Performance in all parts of the Graduateship Examination was awarded to Ms. L.P.L. Jayasinghe, while Ms. H.D.B.S. Siriwardana was awarded the Dr. R.O.B. Wijesekara Felicitation Fund Award for the Best Allrounder of the GIC programme. The Dr. G.C.N. Jayasuriya Award for the first in batch of the DLT programme was secured by Ms. H.I.F Sara. The convocation address was delivered by the chief guest, Prof Chandrika Wijeyarathne, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo. Ms. L.P.L. Jayasinghe and Ms. H.I.F Sara delivered the valedictory addresses of the GIC and DLT programs respectively.
The much anticipated convocation was held in true grandeur amidst many an obstacle, fulfilling the long awaited dream of the graduates and diplomates of the class of 2020.
