A statue of St. Marcellin Champagnat with three children was blessed and declared open on December 8th 2021 at the back gate entrance to Maris Stella College, Negombo.

St. Marcellin Champagnat is the founder of the Religious Congregation of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. Marist Brothers have been in the field of Education since 1911 serving many educational institutions  in Sri Lanka.

This statue is a gift from the past students who left the College in 1993 to mark the centenary year celebrations of the College in 2022.

The opening ceremony was held on the day grade four students receiving First Holy Communion. Rev. Bro. Michael De Waas, the principal of the College invited four of those students to open the statue signifying this memorable day of the school. It was a simple ceremony conducted with dignity.
