Be armed against Omicron –
Let us be responsible collectively to prevent the spread of COVID-19 this festive season, said Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) President Dr. Padma Gunaratne this week, pointing out that Omicron has spread to over 70 countries.
“We are at risk of a huge transmission level due to gatherings and the speed of the transmission of Omicron. There is no one solution. We need to cover all our bases by getting vaccinated with two doses of a vaccine and then a booster and also taking the health precautions (face-masks, hand hygiene, social distancing and avoiding gatherings). Then we can stop contracting it and also spreading it,” she said.
Dr. Gunaratne said that all over 20 years of age should not only get their two doses but also the booster to arm themselves against Omicron. Everyone has to get the vaccine. If you haven’t, get it done.
“People shouldn’t fall victim to myths surrounding the booster. Vaccination isn’t an alien concept to Sri Lankans, it’s something we are used to from our school days,” she added.
