Rotary that has contributed to over a 600 million dollars worth of projects in Sri Lanka from the famous Rotary Polio campaign to the first human heart valve bank, Cervical cancer treatment center and the state of art schools that was built after the Tsunami has now extended the humanitarian investment by gardening support worth over a two billion rupee on the Covid-19 virus in the project Stop the Spread campaign said Dr Rohantha Athukorala the Project Director for Rotary Sri Lanka and Maldives. Under the leadership of Governor Aruni Malalasekera we have now commenced the ‘ Back to School campaign” given the challenge that Omricon virus has had on Children in UK and US that is threatening the stability of the new year.

The new campaign called the Rotary: back to school campaign is a partnership with the Ministry of Education where a 1000 schools across the country with a student population of below 100 students are targeted by Rotary, Rotaract and Interact to make it secure for children to get back school. Rotary is committed not to leave anyone behind said the District Governor for Rotary Sri Lanka & Maldives Aruni Malalasekera. She said this is a key district project where all Rotary clubs, Rotaract Clubs and Interact Clubs are taking part and we are giving a 15,000 member support drive this project. Ms Malalasekera went on to say that by linking all Sri Lankan associations globally to this key task so that we support Education Ministry to get back the children to the schools.

This is a focus all over the world he said. The Rotary Global Covid Task Force Head K.R. Ravindran said that equitable vaccination distribution will be key to managing the stop the spread programme globally especially on the new virus Omricon said Ravindran who was the Global President of Rotary and Chairman of the Rotary Foundation which manages the 4 billion dollar Rotary Fund to do good in the world.

Already we have done over 700 schools that has touched 140,000 school children in the districts of Negambo, Hatton, Ampara and Colombo in partnership with Ministry of Education. Our next next key project will be in Kandy championed by a former Rotary Governor Dr Vijayajumaran who is the President of the Asian Dental Association said Rotary in a communique.
