Leaders, people flock to religious places
View(s):Religious observances were held yesterday islandwide marking the dawn of a New Year.
Large crowds of devotees gathered at religious places as they prayed for a better year after being affected by a pandemic for nearly over two years.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa engaged in religious activities at Kirivehera in Kataragama. They participated in a “ Kapruk puja” and offered “Gilanpasa and Medicine puja. Kirivehera Raja Maha Vihara Chief incumbent Ven Kobawaka Damminda Thera conducted the religious observances.
They also participated in religious observances at the Mahasen Develaya and President Gotabaya planted a white Sandalwood sapling in front of the Kirivehera.
Devotees also engaged in religious observances at Muthiyanganaya chaithya and Seenigama devalaya.
After a lapse of nearly two years devotees flocked to the Sri Dalada Maligawa to mark the New Year.
Relgious observances were conducted in churches, mosques and kovils around the island too,
