Hasali wins U-16 Singles crown; Akeesha and Movindi bag U-14 Doubles title
Hasali Gajaba snatched the Under-16 Girls Singles title while Akeesha Silva and Movindi Fernando bagged the Under-14 Girls Doubles at the 106th National Tennis Championship, which is currently being worked off at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Green Path, Colombo.
Gajaba came out victorious against Saajida Razick in the Under-16 Girls Singles, record a straight win of 2-0, while the pair of Silva and Fernando saw off Hesara Imihamy and Ralindee Mallawaarachchi in straight sets in the Under-14 Girls Doubles.
Zaidh Zihar and Vichinthya Nilaweera came out on top against Anujaya Abeywardena and Thilina Dissanayake in the semi-finals of the Under 16 Singles and they will meet each other in the final later on.
In two other quarter-final matches the pair of Dinara de Silva and Saajida Razick reached the Under 16 Girls Doubles semi-final while Thehan Wijemanne and Anjalika Kurera advanced to the semi-final of Mixed Open.
The pairs of Louise Knese and Jamal Sabry and Lisal Goonatileke and Methvan Wijemanne will meet in the Under-14 Boys Doubles final, after winning their respective semi-final encounters.
After yesterday’s wins Nesangi Hemakumara and Vishmi Serasinghe advanced into the Under-16 Girls Doubles while Nishita Goonetileke and Thilina Dissanayake reached the Under-16 Boys Doubles final.
In the Under-18 category, Dewmini Warnasuriya and Nishka Vivekanandan reached the Girls Doubles final while favourites Chathurya Nilaweera and Thehan Wijemanne found themselves in the Boys Doubles final.
The tournament will continue today.
