Nearly 24,000 new graduate appointments in education sector: Minister
View(s):Nearly 24,000 new graduate appointments given by the Government have been affiliated to education related fields, Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said recently.
They are among 52,000 graduates who are being confirmed in the public service, Mr Gunawardena added.
He made these comments while handing over appointment letters to Maharagama Divisional Secretariat Division graduates, under the Government’s programme of confirming the graduates.
“They can serve as guides to schoolchildren in the country after they are trained,” he said.
Mr Gunawardena who was also the Cabinet sub-committee chairperson responsible for confirming the 52,000 graduates, said the sub-committee has submitted recommendations to confirm and then affiliate the graduates to required fields according to their degrees and preferences.
“The Finance Minister has informed all relevant sections that the government service projects must be completed within the scheduled time frame. Therefore, newcomers to the public service must keep this in mind. Our Government solved the largest salary problem in history– the teachers’ and principals’ salary problem, by spending a large amount of money. They will receive the revised salaries from this month onwards,” the Minister said.
In the meantime, trainee graduates of Colombo north and the central Colombo were given permanent appointments as development officers on Wednesday under the patronage of Colombo development committee chairperson Yadamini Gunawardena.
